ABOUT

The site features a 1678 structure built to replace an earlier trading post established in 1637 by Richard Smith Sr.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Visitors can engage in guided tours led by costumed docents, exploring the intertwined stories of colonial families and enslaved people. Additionally, the grounds feature a Colonial garden, a Three Sisters garden, and a Dye garden, which are open year-round for exploration and learning.

GOOD TO KNOW

The history of Smith's Castle dates back to 1637, when Richard Smith Sr. established a trading post on land granted by the Narragansett tribe. Over the centuries, the site has served various roles, including that of a dairy farm, and is open for events and tours from April to December, allowing visitors to experience its rich history firsthand.
