INTERNATIONAL TENNIS HALL OF FAME

The International Tennis Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization located in the Newport Casino, a National Historic Landmark that opened on July 26, 1880. The 7-acre campus features a museum with approximately 30,000 artifacts related to tennis history, including modern and historic equipment, trophies, and memorabilia. The facility also includes 13 outdoor grass courts, three hard courts, and one green clay court, all dedicated to preserving and celebrating the sport of tennis worldwide.

Visitors to the museum can explore galleries that chronicle the history of tennis, including its origins and the Newport Casino's significance as the birthplace of U.S. championship tennis, where the first USTA Championships were held in 1881. Families can enjoy interactive displays designed to engage young visitors, such as a touch-screen trivia table and an immersive video experience that relives unforgettable moments in tennis history. The museum also offers educational programs aimed at inspiring future generations of tennis players and fans.

Founded in 1954 by Jimmy Van Alen, the Hall of Fame was inspired by the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Initially named the National Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum, it became the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1975. The Hall of Fame hosts the annual ATP Hall of Fame Open, showcasing professional tennis on its historic grounds. The Newport Casino was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
