WESTERLY
Westerly anchors the western end of South County with a growing marine education presence at the Ocean Lab.
Westerly Ocean Lab is the standout — a beachfront marine science center with URI partnerships, touch tanks, and summer ocean camps. Misquamicut State Beach has lifeguarded family swimming. The downtown Westerly Library runs children's programs. Theatre by the Sea (nearby South Kingstown) has family matinees.
Beach-town casual. Summer is the main season but the Ocean Lab runs indoor programs year-round. Westerly is 50 minutes from Providence — it's a destination, not a day-trip add-on. Plan to spend the day.
Tip: Book Ocean Lab summer camps by March — they sell out. Combine a morning program with afternoon beach time at Misquamicut.
