Matunuck Oyster Farm is a wading depth aquaculture farm located on Potter Pond in East Matunuck, South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Founded in 2002 by Perry Raso, the farm specializes in the cultivation of oysters and has expanded to include the Matunuck Oyster Bar, which opened in 2009. The farm emphasizes environmental stewardship and community connection, offering a unique coastal dining experience that showcases locally sourced seafood.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Families visiting Matunuck Oyster Farm can participate in educational oyster farm tours that have been offered since 2002. Guests can explore the farm and learn about aquaculture practices while observing the oyster cultivation process. The Matunuck Oyster Bar provides al fresco dining, allowing visitors to enjoy a variety of seafood dishes made from fresh, local ingredients, enhancing their overall experience.
GOOD TO KNOW
Perry Raso, who began shellfishing at the age of 12, established Matunuck Oyster Farm after studying aquaculture and fisheries technology. The farm quickly grew, selling oysters nationwide by 2008. In addition to the oyster farm, Raso also created Matunuck Vegetable Farm to supply fresh produce for the restaurant.
