ABOUT
The Varnum Continentals operate the historic Varnum Memorial Armory, located at 6 Main Street in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Built in 1913, this facility housed Rhode Island State and National Guard units from 1918 to 1996. The organization is an all-volunteer, 501c3 non-profit dedicated to preserving and sharing Rhode Island's military history through expert stewardship and public access to its collections.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Special events often include demonstrations using period muskets and cannons, providing an engaging experience for families.
GOOD TO KNOW
Founded in 1903 and chartered in 1907, the Varnum Continentals were established by former members to preserve military traditions. The organization was reactivated in 1992 by the Governor of Rhode Island. Admission to the museum is free, although donations are encouraged to support its mission and preservation efforts. The Varnum Continentals continue to play a ceremonial role in the Rhode Island militia while promoting education and patriotism.
