ABOUT
South County Museum is a living history museum founded in 1933 that preserves the rural, village, and maritime history of southern Rhode Island. Located on an eight-acre campus at Canonchet Farm in Narragansett, the museum features seven exhibit buildings, including a blacksmith forge, print shop, carpentry barn, and schoolhouse. The museum houses over 20,000 artifacts dating from the 17th century to modern times.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The grounds include marked walking trails that wind through woods, meadows, and salt marshes.
GOOD TO KNOW
The site was once the estate of Civil War-era governor William Sprague IV, and it now serves as a Blue Star museum, offering free admission to active duty military personnel and their families.
