PROVIDENCE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM
Updated
ABOUT
Providence Children's Museum is Rhode Island's first and only children's museum, founded in June 1977 by a group of volunteers who transformed the Pitcher-Goff House into a vibrant learning center. In October 1997, the museum relocated to its current site at 100 South Street, tripling its physical space to accommodate more visitors. The museum focuses on hands-on, play-based exhibits that promote learning through play, creativity, and exploration.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Families can explore permanent exhibits such as Water Ways, which offers interactive experiences with water, and a time-traveling adventure that highlights Rhode Island's multicultural history. The museum features imaginative outdoor play areas and hosts various educational programs designed for children from pre-K through early elementary.
GOOD TO KNOW
The museum was established after community leaders envisioned a children's museum modeled on successful institutions in Boston and Brooklyn. It has evolved over the years, expanding its facilities and outreach programs to serve a diverse audience. The museum is committed to accessibility, dedicating 40% of its budget to ensure that one-third of its visitors can enjoy free or reduced admission through various initiatives.
