ABOUT
Jaswell's Farm, established in 1899 by Italian immigrant Nicholas Jaswell (Nicola Gesualdi), is the oldest operating apple orchard in Smithfield, Rhode Island's "Apple Valley." Now in its fourth generation of family ownership, the farm features a farmstand, bakery, cider mill, and a popular pick-your-own operation. The Jaswell family has cultivated the farm into a cherished destination, offering a variety of fresh produce, including seasonal fruits and baked goods, throughout the year.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Visitors can participate in seasonal pick-your-own activities, including apples and pumpkins, and enjoy the on-site market and bakery, which provide fresh-pressed cider, fruit pies, and gourmet muffins. The farm also hosts special events and offers a range of unique products, such as preserves and local dairy items, making it an engaging experience for families of all ages.
GOOD TO KNOW
Jaswell's Farm has a rich history, transitioning through four generations of the Jaswell family. The farm was recognized for its contributions to the community, with the family being inducted into the Smithfield Heritage Hall of Fame in 2009. Nationally, the farm gained acclaim, being ranked the 7th best pick-your-own orchard in the U.S. by USA Today in 2021 and 9th in 2022, showcasing its significance in both local and national agriculture.
