ABOUT
Established on December 19, 2014, it is the 402nd unit of the National Park System. The park encompasses significant sites such as the Slater Mill, one of the oldest successful cotton spinning mills in the United States, and the Wilbur Kelly Museum, which highlights the region's transportation history. The park also features bike paths and walking trails along the Blackstone River and Canal.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Families visiting the park can explore various historic sites and landscapes, including the Slater Mill and the Blackstone Canal. The park offers educational programs that engage visitors of all ages, with notable exhibits focusing on the African American experience in the region and the evolution of labor, including the first wage earner's strike in Pawtucket in 1824. Visitors can enjoy walking trails and bike paths, making it suitable for all age groups.
GOOD TO KNOW
The park's creation was part of a broader initiative to preserve the region's industrial history, recognized as nationally significant by Congress in 1986. The park is a continuation of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, which promotes preservation and tourism in the area.
